To become a Halloween Horror Nights Team Member does not require a college degree. However, Universal Studios prefers to hire applicants who have obtained at least a high school diploma.[1] For select nights beginning in late September through the end of October, Universal Orlando hosts a nightly Halloween event called Halloween Horror Nights. Team members for Halloween Horror Nights must be available Wednesday through Sunday and outside of standard business hours.[1]

Halloween Horror Nights Team Member Overview

Halloween Horror Nights Team members work in physically demanding conditions, often needing to stand for extended periods of time. Team members regularly work outside are exposed to weather conditions including direct sunlight, heat or cold, and rain. Additionally, team members work in in confined spaces facing extreme cold and extreme heat not related to weather.[1]

Team members support several attractions as part of the Halloween Horror Nights. These annual attractions include eight different themed haunted houses, two live shows, and five themed attractions based on the television show The Walking Dead.[4] Job duties of Halloween Horror Nights team members include:

  • Standing, walking, and sitting for prolonged periods of time
  • Climbing of stairs and/or ladders
  • Excellent balance and the ability to work at heights comfortably[1]

Halloween Horror Nights Team Member Education

Universal Studios does not require Halloween Horror Nights Team Members to have a college degree. The job description does not list a high school diploma as a hiring requirement. However, the park prefers that job applicants have at least one year of theme park attraction operational experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.[1] Additionally, Universal Studios expects Team Members to understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established policies, procedures, training, and team activities.

Halloween Horror Nights Team Member Training

Halloween Horror Nights Team Member positions require persons who are comfortable working in horror-themed attractions. These attractions expose team members to loud sounds (special effects and music), strobe lights, changing lighting conditions, and flashing lights. Additionally, the positions require other physical demands of the team members. Team members must learn how to use several physical and mental skills on the job. These skills include:

  • Being able to talk and hear audible alarms and voice commands with background noise
  • Use close and distance vision with or without corrective lenses
  • Maintain alertness and attentiveness up to four hours while working varying hours
  • Maintain concentration and focus despite distractions
  • Work in small or tight spaces
  • Use hands and fingers to grip, pinch, handle or feel objects, tools or controls
  • Perform repeating motions more than twice per minute
  • Lift and/or push up to 50-75 pounds with control
  • Perform tasks requiring balance; stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling
  • Use repetition input devices in a steady manner
  • Demonstrate excellent sensory perception[1]
